I am asked frequently about what kinds of gifts I prefer, and I appreciate the willingness of my clients to proffer such kindness upon me.  But while I appreciate the desire to provide me with such gratitude, I just as soon you make a donation to one of the causes I hold near and dear to my heart.

The first of these is the House Rabbit Society.  As a child and adolescent, I raised and showed rabbits, and they hold a special place in my heart.  They’re such tender, fragile little creatures, each with its own unique personality.  Every year, though, thousands of rabbits are abandoned or turned over to shelters because their owners can’t take care of them for some reason.

The House Rabbit Society has shelters across the country where these little creatures are cared for, often nursed back from the brink of death, and offered up for adoption to a loving family.  HRS shelters are no-kill shelters – the rabbits are tended to until they die a natural death (or have to be put down due to incurable illness or injury), or they are adopted out.  That care is provided purely by volunteers, but the facilities, food, vet bills, and other necessities cost money. They also provide a wealth of educational services about rabbits to the public.

A donation to the HRS is tax-deductible and will help make some little bunny’s life just a little bit more comfortable.  So please consider donating to the HRS, in my name if you like.

The second passion of mine is Planned Parenthood.  PP offers a wide range of reproductive health services to people of all genders on a daily basis.  And while many people only see PP as a provider of abortion services (which constitutes less than three percent of everything they do), they’ve done far more as an organization to prevent the need for unnecessary abortions in this country than all other organizations combined.  PP also believes in legitimate, comprehensive sex education for young people.
